New Year 2021 Update

Hello again!

Things have turned up a decent amount since my previous progress update, and I've managed to get my workflow going again at least for one week (albeit then interrupted by the holidays), so my hopes for this project continuing to be worked on regularly are at least somewhat high.

2020 is over now, and what a year it has been. I figured this update would be a good time to consider and give some insight into my progress this year and how I keep track of things on this project, a bit of a retrospective, as this is now nearly the second year of this project being in development.

Since last December, I've kept an ongoing record of the progress I make each week on Dawn of Ragnarok, a yearly progress tracker of sorts. Given I've now fully filled out this progress tracker and put together a new one for the new year, I figured now would be a good time to show both the old and new and give some insights into my process over the last year.

The 2020 version is here. In retrospect its a bit clunky, being based on days and months instead of a more typical months, weeks, and days, and when I made I had to individually count out days and highlight the weekends (originally, the days I scheduled work for this project on were primarily Saturday and Sunday; this has since been moved up to Friday and Saturday). It did serve me well for this last year, however, through all its troubles; especially at the beginning of the year, seeing definite progress on the tracker kept me going regularly, before my schedule fell apart for the first time this year around April as many of the problems of this year began to take their toll on me. In late August, additionally, I added an extra number for "illustrated scenes" which helped me prioritize what I should work on to keep scenes getting illustrated, which makes progress much more regular and feel more tangible than just counting individual images (though I still keep track of that, of course - important when, as can be seen from much of the progress in September, that certain scenes do require a large number of images, especially those with animations, and counting my drawing progress as entirely zero while I'm working hard on all of what is necessary for a complex scene would be quite disheartening).

With last year's tracker given a look at, the new 2021 one I've put together is here. It's now month and week-based! I could probably have removed the months as well, making the tracker a bit easier to set up and probably less uneven-looking, but keeping them makes it easier to keep track of when exactly I am on the tracker, if I miss a week for any reason, because there are no individual days. The tracker still uses the same basic numbers of images/illustrated scenes/written scenes as the previous one, but now of course counts in weeks of the year instead of days, which is ultimately a more useful metric for keeping track of my progress (those who follow these updates may remember back in the autumn update that I gave a very rough and at this point a bit outdated estimate on how much work was left on the project, which was measured in weeks). Hopefully this new tracker will serve me well through 2021.

2020 was a rough year for pretty much everyone it sounds like, and though the events of this year resulted in two major pauses in progress on this project, I hope that this next year will be better, and I'll be able to continue working on this project at a regular pace, and potentially even get Part 1 done by the end of it (no promises, it's hard to tell how much work is required at this point and how things will go, but it's something I'm hoping for).

Thank you to everyone who continues to follow this project, I hope all of you are doing well in these often troublesome times and I hope this update is a bit more of a hopeful one after the previous winter update.

~ Celia
